About the Project:
Overview: This job aid was created to help users keep their personal information safe, while working online. The goal was to provide a quick reference of the most important guidelines to help protect private information.
Problem: With hackers and scams seemingly at every turn, it can be easy to make simple mistakes while using the Internet. Compromising personal information like passwords, social security numbers, and account numbers can happen before you are even aware.
Solution: There are simple steps everyone can do to keep that information protected. I wanted to create a quick reference of some of these online safety basics that users could keep on hand as a reminder.
Takeaways: After sharing this job aid with others and gathering feedback, it became clear that the content is great for an average user, but novice learners need to learn some basics to better understand how to implement each. This content could be developed into a short 'Online Safety Basics' course that teaches some Internet basics, then walks a learner through how to implement each tip. This content could even be turned into a series of microlearning modules.
While researching this topic, I found many other tips that anyone can easily follow for more protection when working online. I would like to use an eLearning tool like Articulate Rise or Evolve to share a more robust set of tips and other ways to keep personal information safe. Topics could include common threats like identity theft, phishing scams, malware, and viruses. Learners may also benefit from scenario-based learning through branching scenarios using Articulate Storyline to practice identifying and avoiding threats.
